Warts

Wart_2

Warts, also known as verrucae, are non cancerous skin growths. Often appearing as small fleshy grainy bumps they are rough to the touch and cosmetically disturbing. Their color can range from flesh-colored, white pin or tan. Rough to the touch, they are harmless, but can spread easily and are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

TYPES

Common warts:  typically occurring on hands they can occur in multiples.
Plantar warts: Occurring on the feet these are flesh-colored or light brown bumps with tiny black dots inside of them. These dots are not “seeds” as they are commonly referred to, but rather clotted blood vessels.
Genital warts: A sexually transmitted infection, these can appear on the genitals, pubic area or anal canal as well as inside the vagina.
Flat warts:  Smaller growths that generally occur on the face or legs these are usually smoother than other types.

There are many new treatments available for warts, including immunotherapy and laser therapy.
